About Manoj J. Mammen

Dr. Manoj J. Mammen, M.D., is a seasoned clinician, educator, and researcher specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine. With nearly 12 years of experience at the University of Buffalo, and currently a faculty member at the University of Rochester, Dr. Mammen is committed to excellence in medical education. He plays a vital role in training medical students, residents, and fellows, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to manage pulmonary diseases and critical illnesses effectively.

In his clinical practice, primarily at Strong Memorial Hospital, Dr. Mammen provides comprehensive care for a wide array of pulmonary conditions, including ARDS, asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pleural disease, pulmonary hypertension, and lung cancer. He is also actively involved at the Mary Parkes Asthma Center, where he evaluates and treats patients with various pulmonary disorders in an outpatient setting. His work spans multiple practice locations where he collaborates with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional care.

Dr. Mammen extends his expertise to leadership roles and service in his field. As an executive board member of the New York State Thoracic Society (NYSTS), he has held several key positions such as program chair of the annual conference, secretary, treasurer, and currently serves as vice president. He also represents the chapter council to the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and has served as president of the ATS's Council of Chapters Committee. These roles underscore his commitment to advancing pulmonary and critical care medicine, impacting global health, and transforming patient care.

Dr. Mammen’s research focuses on computational approaches, multi-omic data analysis, and guideline development, which are instrumental in understanding COPD pathogenesis and identifying therapeutic targets. His academic background includes undergraduate and medical training at Rutgers University and New Jersey Medical School, followed by residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary/Critical Care at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Before his current role at the University of Rochester Medical Center, he served in the Pulmonary/Critical Care division at the University of Buffalo and worked as a pulmonary and critical care provider at Buffalo General Medical Center and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for 12 years.
