About Frank C. Detterbeck
Dr. Frank Detterbeck is a renowned thoracic oncologist and thoracic surgeon, currently holding the position of Professor of Surgery and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Yale University. He is also the Associate Director of the Yale Cancer Center.
He obtained his BS in Cell Biology from the University of Michigan and MD from Northwestern University. He completed his general surgery training at the Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle and specialized in cardiothoracic surgery and thoracic transplantation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined Yale University in 2005 and has been promoting evidence-based care and multidisciplinary teamwork in thoracic oncology.
He specializes in the surgical treatment of lung cancer, esophageal cancer, thymoma, mediastinal tumors, and mesothelioma, among others, and frequently uses minimally invasive techniques in his surgeries. He has published over 150 papers and book chapters on various topics related to thoracic surgery and holds leadership positions in many professional societies in the field.
