About Luis Herrera
Dr. Luis Herrera is the medical director of the Rod Taylor Thoracic Care Center at Orlando Health Cancer Institute and a member of the Thoracic/Head and Neck Cancers Specialty Section. He specializes in surgery for tumors of the chest, including cancer of the lung, esophagus, chest wall and mediastinum, as well as benign disorders of the esophagus. He is experienced in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, advanced pulmonary resections, and esophagectomy, and is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Dr. Herrera received his medical degree summa cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico, and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh and cardiothoracic surgery residency at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, with a focus on thoracic surgical oncology.
He is also involved in basic and translational research in new treatments for lung and esophageal cancer and has received several awards and published in several journals.
