About Lorraine Cornwell
Dr. Lorraine Cornwell is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and the Section Head of General Thoracic Surgery at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.
Dr. Cornwell obtained her M.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 1996, followed by General Surgery Residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals from 2001. She completed a Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency and another Residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill-Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, finishing in 2003.
She is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and American Board of Surgery. Dr. Cornwell's professional interests include thoracic oncology and cardiothoracic surgery, as well as Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic (VATS) lobectomy, Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and heart valve surgery.
At the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Dr. Cornwell and her team provide state-of-the-art thoracic oncologic and cardiac surgical services to US military veterans. She specializes in surgical care for thoracic oncology patients and minimally invasive operations, such as Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic (VATS) lobectomy and DaVinci robot for selected thoracic operations. She also frequently treats patients with benign conditions of the chest, such as infections, achalasia, hiatal hernia, esophageal stricture, gastroesophageal reflux, or esophageal motility disorders.
Dr. Cornwell's research interests include optimization of clinical outcomes of cardiothoracic surgery, especially minimally invasive procedures, off-pump CABG, valve repair, and VATS lobectomy.
