About Christopher Wigfield
Christopher H. Wigfield, MD, has been appointed assistant professor of surgery at the University of Chicago Medicine. He is an expert in adult thoracic surgery and lung transplantation, caring for patients with a wide range of cardiothoracic diseases such as lung cancer, mediastinal and pleural conditions, as well as chest wall tumors and defects. He prefers to use minimally invasive approaches to minimize tissue trauma and shorten recovery time.
His clinical research focuses on lung transplantation and robotic assisted thoracic innovation, and has also studied the impact of donor and procurement related topics in lung transplantation and regenerative tissue support in thoracic surgery.
Dr. Wigfield is also interested in medical education and mentoring students in both clinical and research settings. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on lung transplantation and is frequently invited to present his work at national and international conferences. He is also the Director for Educational Affairs at the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
